Leading global information and communication
technology (ICT) solutions provider Huawei received the Ganesa Widya Jasa
Adiutama award from the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB). This award is
the highest form of acknowledgment from ITB to parties who are considered to
have a real and sustainable role in developing the local ICT ecosystem,
including organizations and individuals.
Prof. Reini Wirahadikusumah, PhD, ITB rector, handed the award to Yenty Joman, Director of Government Affairs, Huawei Indonesia.
Representing the ITB academic community, Prof. Reini Wirahardikusumah, Ph.D.
said, "The Ganesa Widya Jasa Adiutama award is a form of our appreciation
for the long-term and sustainable commitment and support contributed by Huawei
to ensure that ITB graduates are always exposed to the latest developments in
the ICT world and understand how to maximize the latest technology. We hope
that the synergistic collaboration between ITB and Huawei can be built even
more closely in the future in order to produce highly competent digital talents
and contribute to the progress of Indonesia."
Meanwhile, Jacky
Chen, CEO of Huawei Indonesia said that the Ganesa Widya Jasa Adiutama
award given by ITB to Huawei was very meaningful, especially in encouraging
Huawei to continue its commitment to advance research and development
(R&D), innovation, and increase digital talent competence in Indonesia.
Jacky said,“Huawei has been present in
Indonesia for more than 22 years. Until now, Huawei's commitment to continue to
be directly involved in the development of the ICT ecosystem in the country has
never subsided. We will continue to work closely with our partners in
education, including ITB. Apart from being a form of embodiment of Huawei I
DO's vision and mission, this collaboration is very important for us to produce
at least 100 thousand digital talents by 2025. At Huawei we believe that
digital talent competence is one of the key factors for the optimal implementation
of cutting-edge technology that will determine the strength of Indonesia's
competitiveness in the global arena."
ITB's partnership with Huawei in education and
research has been going on since 2013. Some of Huawei's contributions to ITB
include the establishment of the Huawei ICT Academy and Huawei ICT Academy
Support Center, construction of laboratories equipped with switches, routers,
and firewalls, curriculum development, certification lecturers, and direct
student guidance through various annual programs such as the Huawei ICT
Competition and Seeds for the Future. It is estimated that ITB trains nearly
200 students annually with Huawei. While in the field of research, Huawei and
ITB collaborate in the field of research on 5G technology, AI, and other
cutting-edge technologies.
In addition, ITB has also won several
prestigious national and international events held by Huawei, and received
recognition as the National Excellent Huawei ICT Academy and Global Excellent
University in 2020. In 2021, student representatives from ITB won the best
title in the Huawei ICT world competition after previously winning the two best
titles in the Network and Cloud categories at the Asia Pacific level, and this
year also managed to repeat its achievements.
"We also want to congratulate ITB for the
achievements it has made again in the Huawei ICT Competition 2022. We encourage
the next generations to continue to participate in this educational event so
that they can gain and deepen the knowledge that has been gained in the college
environment, so that they will become talents in the future. "Excellent
digital talent, the pride of the alma mater who is able to play a role as a
contributor to the progress of the nation," said Jacky.
Huawei is also set to hold its flagship Seeds
for the Future 2022 in Thailand in August where one of ITB students is among
the 10 Indonesian best fellows having been selected to represent Indonesia to
join the program.
"Coinciding with its 102nd anniversary,
Huawei also believes and hopes that ITB will always be a leading higher
education institution in the fields of science, technology, social, and culture,"
Jacky asserted.
Aside from
digital talent development, Huawei has also launched the acceleration program
Spark in 2020 with the aim to promote and initiate collaboration to boost start-up
development in Indonesia in order to scale up, benefit, and accelerate the
digital economy. The program is also meant to promote the growth of the Huawei
ecosystem, considering Huawei has access to 197 companies on the Global Fortune
500 list in addition that Huawei App Store and Cloud Marketplace currently
grant access to 700 million Huawei Mobile and Cloud users globally therefore
users can benefit from the ecosystem to sell to Huawei, sell with Huawei and
sell through Huawei.
Currently, 40+
startups are participating the program with 1,000 others in the pipeline.
Under the
program, Huawei will invest over $100 million in the next three years.
