All TelkomGroup Services Resume Operation in Jayapura

Jakarta, 20 May 2021 - PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (Telkom) continues to strive to accelerate service recovery in Jayapura to ensure customers can return to using TelkomGroup services comfortably.

"Currently all TelkomGroup services, both voice and data, ranging from IndiHome fixed broadband to Telkomsel mobile broadband have been up again and can be used by customers on a priority basis while waiting for the completion of the cable connection process using a special ship.  So that the people of Jayapura and its surroundings can return to their activities by using internet access from TelkomGroup, "said Pujo Pramono, Vice President of Telkom Corporate Communication in Jakarta (20/5).

TelkomGroup services that have been active again in Jayapura include Telkomsel voice and data services, IP VPN with a bandwidth of 70 Mbps and Astinet services for corporate and government customers with a total bandwidth of up to 149 Mbps.  As for public service agencies that have also been active, including hospitals, Diskominfo, TNI and Police, Pemprov, and Pemkot Papua, BMKG, schools and campuses and other agencies.

Meanwhile, IndiHome triple play service can also be used.  Even IndiHome TV services can also be enjoyed by customers by presenting 16 live TV channels.  In addition, the Wifi-id service at 10 Wifi Corner locations in Jayapura can be used by the public.  Especially for the Wifi Corner which is located in Kandatel Sentani, Kandatel Abepura, Telkom STO 1 Jayapura and Telkom BaseG, the public can access the internet for free.  Even Telkom also provides a media center for journalists at the Papua Witel Office.

The availability of TelkomGroup services in Jayapura is currently supported by bandwidth with a capacity of up to 4.7 Gbps through satellite link support of 2,662 Mbps, 500 Mbps East Palapa Ring long haul radio and 1,600 Mbps Sarmi - Biak long haul radio.

Meanwhile, for the repair of the broken cable, a special ship was dispatched from Makassar to Jayapura on 19 May 2021. As well as bringing a team of experts who will connect the cable, the ship is equipped with technical equipment that supports the lifting and repair process of submarine cables.

Previously, the ship had pocketed an Underwater Work Order (SPKBA) issued by the Director General of Sea Transportation of the Indonesian Ministry of Transportation and security clearance documents.  The cable repair process is directly escorted by Telkom Infra, a subsidiary of Telkom.  It is targeted that the cable connection can be completed in the early week of June 2021.

"This is a challenge and a commitment for us to do our best in improving the communication system of the SMPCS submarine cable that is disconnected so that the public will get the best service quality from TelkomGroup," said Pujo.

At the end of April, TelkomGroup services in Jayapura experienced disruption after the breakdown of the submarine cable communication system of the Sulawesi Maluku Papua Cable System (SMPCS) for the Biak - Jayapura section on the seabed, 280 km from Biak and 360 km from Jayapura.

Meanwhile, it is suspected that the cause of the breakdown of the fiber optic submarine cable was due to natural factors, given the location of the cable that was cut at a depth of 4050 m where the location is far from maritime activities such as fishermen, ship anchors, and others.  Telkom was only able to further identify the cause of cable breakage after lifting the cable from the sea.
